Véloroute Gourmande

235 km

252 stops

As you head out on the Route Verte and the Trans Canada Trail, the 235 km connecting Montréal and Sherbrooke will offer you an amazing (whole) new perspective by bike of the Montérégie and Eastern Townships regions. With epicurean stops, various attractions and accommodations, you can choose to explore the Véloroute Gourmande at your own pace, safely, and always enjoying yourself!

Section 1—Montréal To St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu - 45 km

As you start out from the metropolitan area, you’ll discover the city from a new and unique perspective. Stop by the Fort Chambly National Historic Site to understand why soldiers built this stone fort in Chambly in 1711. You’ll also find out many period relics are hidden beneath your feet. As you ride along the Chambly Canal, you’ll be accompanied by a few boats that will sail alongside you. Who’ll be the fastest? Once in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu, many terraces will have you discover the local flavours while you enjoy the summer entertainment on the Place publique du Vieux-St-Jean. Simply beautiful!

Section 2—St-Jean-sur-Richelieu To Granby - 50 km

Take the bicycle path far from the noisy traffic, and head out across the region’s farmlands. Breathe! Along the way, you’ll discover several creative craftsmen who’ll gladly share their know-how with you. Make a stop and fill your bike bags at the Farnham Ale & Lager Microbrewery and its neighbour the Fromagerie des Cantons. In the heart of the semi-urban park, the Centre d’interprétation de la nature du lac Boivin invites you to observe the fauna and flora along the Yamaska River. Several picnic areas are available.

Section 3—Granby to Orford - 70 km

What better way to start the day than with a delicious cup of coffee at the Café de la Brûlerie in Granby, to give you the energy to take on the kilometres ahead. As you end your stay in Granby, discover some sixty works of art by exploring the Artria open-air museum. Would you like to enjoy a break near a waterway? You’ll have plenty to choose from on this route. Several places will offer you relaxation and a swimming area, and even different watercraft rentals. As you continue your route towards Orford, immerse yourself in the history of colonization by exploring the Chemin des Diligences.

Section 4—Orford to Sherbrooke - 60 km

As you leave the Orford region, your eyes will be dazzled by how the mountains and lakes come together. Take a break to admire the splendour of majestic Lake Memphremagog or Lake Massawippi. Stop by the Capelton Mine long enough to discover how in 1863, Georges Capel discovered a highly prized wartime mineral, copper. All this has made you thirsty! Take the time to enjoy a delicious cold beer at the Pub Le Lion d’Or, Québec’s first microbrewery where, in fact, they still use a traditional hand-brewing method. When you arrive at the Lac des Nations in Sherbrooke, you’ll surely want to extend your stay to discover all the best the city has to offer. You’ll be seduced by the trompe-l’oeil murals that reveal the history of this beautiful city.
