A Tourist Destination Since 1850

The Eastern Township region is shaped by both a rich past and a promising future, a respect for traditions and the capacity for innovating, the art of relaxation and the urge to move. Our region offers a territory steeped in dualities, but where the elements never come into conflict. In fact, they complement and enrich each other, creating a balanced, cohesive, and harmonious combination.

Located at an hour’s drive from Montréal, the Eastern Townships region shares its border with the American states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

  • Around forty wineries (optional: about twenty of which are part of the Brome-Missisquoi Wine Route), about thirty microbreweries and around ten cider houses and microdistilleries
  • 4 national parks (Sépaq) and 5 regional parks
  • 2 dark-sky reserves, including the first International Dark Sky Reserve at Mont-Mégantic National Park and one at Au Diable Vert
  • 4 major ski resorts and the L’EST GO pass allowing visitors to access all four resorts
  • Numerous cycling paths across the region’s landscapes and over 4,000 km of recommended road and gravel cycling routes featured in our guides, as well as nearly fifteen mountain biking locations
  • Around one hundred hiking trails offering short, medium and long hikes
  • More than 200 events and festivals of all kinds
  • More than 2,000 accommodation options across the region, including one Relais & Châteaux property.

The importance of tourism for our region

In Québec, the Eastern Townships rank fifth in terms of overnight stays, with volumes reaching 10.7 million overnight stays and $1.3 billion in tourism revenues annually. Tourism-related sectors account for about 1 in 10 jobs in the region, representing more than 21,000 jobs.
