The Marché Champêtre de Melbourne’s country market celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, making it one of the oldest markets in the Townships. Well established and fast becoming a favourite hub for families, visiting sports enthusiasts, epicureans and travellers to our beautiful region, the Market is not slowing down its ambitions. Here are some of the surprises in store for you this summer!
With its ten or so carefully selected producers and artisans, this Melbourne market makes it a point to offer products that are sustainably farmed, eco-friendly and fairly priced.
Here, surrounded by a warm and friendly ambiance, you’ll find absolutely everything you need for your health-conscious grocery shopping: vegetables, mushrooms, pork, veal, kid, lamb and chicken, eggs, goat’s and cow’s cheeses, breads, pastries, berries, maple and beehive products, coffee, crafts... and so much more! The Market store may seem small, but we’ve thought of everything so you’ll have plenty for your picnic or meals at home! And, adding to the excitement, musicians, puppeteers and storytellers are all working on site to create a festive atmosphere!
We told you about the fun surprises awaiting you this summer at the Marché champêtre de Melbourne, so... drum roll! Given the huge success of last year’s event, the Marché Champêtre’s Table Fermière is back for a second consecutive year on July 13! During the event, two guest chefs and a local chef will be cooking up market specialties for a gourmet 5-course dinner made with 95% local ingredients. A welcome cocktail, wine pairings for each course, the presence of producers who’ll share their stories with you and music performances will enhance this highly entertaining tasting experience, which promises to be unforgettable.
You were unable to get a ticket? Don’t worry, once again, the Marché Champêtre has thought of everything! On Saturday August 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the 2nd gastronomic event of the year will be held: La Grande Fête du Marché Champêtre. And this time, everyone is welcome and it’s free!
On the menu? Producers’ stands offering tasty snacks prepared by a local chef using market ingredients, entertainment, storytelling, farm animals, inflatable games, face painting for children and music!
Psst! It’s all free, with gift certificates and products to be raffled off as well!
As you can see, a visit to the Marché Champêtre de Melbourne is all about grocery shopping, but it’s also a memorable experience, an opportunity to socialize and taste delicious products served up by the producers themselves.
To tempt your taste buds, visit the Marché Champêtre de Melbourne Facebook page, which is packed with information about the people without whom the market would never be possible: the invaluable producers and artisans!
From May to October, every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., come and meet the men and women who share a passion for their land and who practise a sustainable form of agriculture respectful of the environment and the people it feeds.
Come join us!
