Allow yourself a gentle morning start by enjoying a stroll through the Parc des Vétérans in Lac-Mégantic. Let your eyes take in the quiet rippling waves of the lake. Along the way, pique your curiosity with the various art sculptures installed here. You’ll soon notice that the town has a truly appeasing atmosphere. Indeed, it’s no wonder that this town has been recognized by the international “Cittaslow” network, which rewards towns for their quality of life.
Head to the Ferme des petits Torrieux, located only 10 minutes from the town centre. In spring, this educational farm offers a range of activities, including a delightful sugar shack. On site, as well as trying their maple products, you can meet different farm animals and maybe even hop on a tractor ride! Book your visit on Saturdays to be sure to sample their maple syrup pancakes and smoked grilled meats.
To end the day, we recommend you enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of the Musi-Café. With its wood-cooked cuisine and regular entertainment, this restaurant bar is a must in Lac-Mégantic. Poutine, sharing boards, burgers and many more homemade dishes, it’s all good here. The hardest part is deciding what to have.
Way beyond its unique, eco-friendly accommodations, Hébergement aux Cinq Sens is truly an experience to be enjoyed. Nestled inside the Mégantic Dark Sky Reserve in Piopolis, here you’ll learn to connect with nature during your stay. In fact, you’ll find yourself on the ancestral lands of the Abenaki and Huron-Wendat nations, benefiting from their teachings during an evening under the stars with Benoit, an amateur astronomer, who’ll tell you all about the secrets of the cosmos.
Psst ... on the day of the solar eclipse this establishment will be offering a special activity for its guests!
The Megantic region is known for its beautiful mountains and numerous hiking trails. To gain more height, you can venture out on the trails of Mount-Gosford. At 1,193 m, it’s the region’s highest peak. Once you’ve reached the top, climb up the observation tower for a 360° view overlooking the Northeast United States.
Be sure to check trail conditions before you head out.
After a busy day exploring the great outdoors, head to La Garnison microbrewery in Lac-Mégantic to unwind and quench your thirst as well as fill your appetite. With its simple, inviting cuisine, you’ll even find a few classics on the menu, revisited with home-brewed beers. At this beer lover’s headquarters, sample some of the local, craft beverages to accompany your dish.
Recently opened on the shores of Lake Mégantic, this accommodation offers 11 comfortable suites, each one with its own style (modern, traditional, classic...). They’re also all named after a star, and invite you to enjoy a peaceful, dreamy night. On site, treat your senses to a relaxing experience in the hotel’s spa. Divided into 15 different spaces, alternate between hot tubs, cold water immersions and rest to maximize your thermal cycle experience.
It’s finally here, the long-awaited D-Day of the solar eclipse! This morning you’ll be waking up near Lake Mégantic once again, and you’ll really need a hearty breakfast to appease your appetite. Go straight to Café Bistro la Brûlerie and order whatever you like, whether it’s sweet or salty. The delicious, nourishing dishes will give you all the energy you’ll need today. And while you’re there, treat yourself to some amazing pastries to take home.
In the Mégantic region, the partial eclipse will begin at around 2:18 p.m. Make sure you have a front-row seat for this unique spectacular event. If you’ve already gotten your tickets for the viewing at the Mount Mégantic site, you needn’t hesitate: that’s where it’s happening for you. If not, no worries, fortunately, the sky is visible from all around. Our advice? Head out on La Route des Sommets and find the perfect place to watch the total eclipse!
The route covers 193 km of breathtaking landscapes. Settle back on one of the many inclined benches set out along the road, put on your viewing glasses and let the celestial stars dance before your eyes.
