Fort de ses 25 km de sentiers, le parc historique de la Poudrière de Windsor offre un cadre idéal pour une belle randonnée en nature.

Il ne reste plus grand-chose de l’imposante usine de poudre noire qui a dicté le rythme de la ville de Windsor de 1864 à 1922. À l’exception, peut-être, de quelques bâtiments et vestiges; mais le site, lui, a conservé en grande partie son cadre naturel.
Cet été, en raison de la situation sanitaire, les installations muséales qui racontent l’épopée de cette usine ne sont pas ouvertes au public. Toutefois, les sentiers demeurent accessibles. Autant en profiter.
L’attrait vedette des lieux, c’est la rivière Watopeka, un cours d’eau de taille moyenne ponctué de plusieurs chutes et cascades. Cet affluent de la rivière Saint-François se dévoile intimement en suivant le sentier B, long de 5 km. En poussière de roche et sans grande difficulté, cette piste mène à plusieurs aires de repos. Prenez votre temps pour savourer les paysages et écouter la douce musique des cascades. Au bout du sentier, on peut revenir sur nos pas ou faire une boucle en empruntant les sentiers E, D et A, qui nous ramène vers l’accueil. On peut aussi explorer les pistes de ski de fond qui sont accessibles en été, mais dont l’entretien est réduit au minimum en l’absence de neige. Les adeptes de course en sentier les adorent pour leur côté rustique.
L’autre piste grand public est la boucle de la Poudre, qui mène aux vestiges de ce site industriel, toujours en suivant les méandres de la rivière Watopeka. Plusieurs tables à pique-nique sous les arbres invitent à casser la croûte. Charmant. L’accès à ce parc historique est gratuit.
Si vous aimez le vélo sur piste cyclable, allez pédaler le tronçon de la Route verte qui relie Richmond à Warwick sur 78 km. Circulant sur une ancienne voie ferrée, cette piste affiche un faible dénivelé dans un décor champêtre.
Canot-Kayak Richmond propose de la location d’embarcations pour pagayer sur la rivière Saint-François. Profitez d’un beau point de vue sur le Val-Saint-François à partir du belvédère de la Vache, à Saint-Georges-de-Windsor.
