Le parc national du Mont-Mégantic, j’ai eu le bonheur de le découvrir lors de ma participation au Canada Xtreme l’an dernier. J’avais hâte de retrouver ses paysages apaisants, et sa nature omniprésente et diversifiée.

J’étais aussi très fébrile et, je l’avoue, un peu nerveuse à l’approche de mon activité, notamment à cause du défi que je m’étais donné. Mon objectif : gravir pour la première fois la route du Mont-Mégantic à vélo ; une des côtes, sinon LA côte, la plus difficile au Québec. Une ascension d’un peu plus de cinq kilomètres pour 550m de dénivelé positif. Pas de la petite bière!
Avant de commencer, une visite à l’Astrolab s’imposait. Ce qui nous entoure est fascinant et l’animateur sur place a piqué ma curiosité avec ses questions générales, mais aussi plus pointues, sur la Lune, la Terre, le Soleil. J’ai aussi eu la chance d’assister au tout nouveau film Émergence traitant de la création de l’univers jusqu’au développement de la vie sur Terre. J’ai été franchement impressionnée!
Après un petit moulinage sur la route menant au parc, le moment était venu. Dès qu’on entame la montée, on joue dans les 18% d’inclinaison. Assurément l’une des parties les plus exigeantes. Cela dit, en respectant notre propre rythme, ce n’est vraiment pas si pire que ça, pour peu que l’on soit un cycliste aguerri !
Au sommet, une visite de l’Observatoire m’a permis de constater pourquoi la réserve de ciel étoilé est l’une des fiertés de la région. Je me promets d’y retourner la nuit, lors d’une des soirées d’observation.
En redescendant, je me suis sentie interpelée par le Mont St-Joseph. J’ai donc pratiquement doublé la distance et le dénivelé en faisant un petit détour pour m’y rendre. Il faut dire que c’était une journée idéale, ni trop chaude, ni trop froide et que la vue au sommet valait le détour! Chaque coup de pédale a été largement récompensé. En général, la chaussée est superbe, malgré quelques trous pour lesquels il faut redoubler de prudence en descente.
De retour au départ, je me suis dirigée vers le village Piopolis, certifié Cœur Villageois. J’ai cassé la croûte au Resto Pub Au Soleil Levant avec vue sur le lac. Un véritable bonheur !
Mégantic, ce n’était pas ma première fois et assurément pas la dernière ! Mon prochain projet, retourner me baigner dans le lac après en avoir fait le tour à vélo. Encore beaucoup plaisir en perspective !
