5 Ways to Explore Lake Memphremagog

Published on Mar 15, 2024

From Magog to the Canada/US border, you’ll discover one of the most majestic lakes in the Eastern Townships: Lake Memphremagog. In summer, with its enchanting setting and vast expanse, it’s a boater’s delight. Cruises, water sports, swimming ... there are loads of ways to enjoy this natural wonder. Here are five of them.

How About a Cruise!

Yes, you can enjoy a cruise on Lake Memphremagog! Escapades Memphrémagog offers a range of day and evening packages for exploring this lovely lake in style. Aboard the Grand Cru, a luxury boat with a 180-passenger capacity, you can enjoy a short getaway with a gourmet meal and live music. Escapades Memphrémagog’s cruises last from 1 h. 30 min. to 3 hrs 30 min. and promise you a truly memorable experience.

Would you prefer a more intimate option? Discover the different packages offered by Croisières l’Air du Lac. Take a seat aboard the 12-person pontoon for a guided tour, where the captain will be delighted to tell you all about the history as well as different anecdotes surrounding the lake. Several departures are offered every day from mid-June to mid-September. Bring your own lunch and drinks to make the trip even more enjoyable. Psst! You can also book the boat for a private sunset outing.

By Renting a Motor Boat

Do you have a boating licence but no boat? No problem! You can rent one from Location des Quatre Lacs, which offers boats on Lake Memphremagog as well as on lakes Magog, Massawippi and Brome. For a few hours, a day or a whole week, you can set off and explore the lake aboard one of their pontoons, which can accommodate up to 10 people.

By Paddle or by Sail!

All water sports enthusiasts will be delighted to know that you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and other non-motorized watercraft from Vie de Plein air, as well as small sailboats and windsurfing equipment at Club de Voile Memphrémagog. These two Magog-based businesses will let you navigate the waters of the Memphremagog region to your heart’s content. Sailing lessons and day camps for children are also offered by the Club de voile Memphrémagog.

Using Your Own Equipment

Watercraft owners will also be able to use the many launch ramps found on Lake Memphremagog. However, be sure to get all the information before you head out, because you’ll need to obtain a washing permit to prevent invasive species from spreading throughout the lake. Only some boat launch sites have a washing station. These include Parc Forand in Fitch Bay, La Capitainerie in Magog and Club de Voile Memphrémagog (non-motorized boats only).

On dry land... On the Beach

There’s more to Lake Memphremagog than just waves! You’ll also find several beautiful beaches well worth a visit. In Magog, the Plage des Cantons and the beaches of the Parc de la  Baie-de-Magog (Pointe Merry) are both easily accessible and free of charge. The former offers a vast expanse of sand as well as a grass-covered area with picnic tables. The Pointe Merry beaches are narrower and run alongside a bicycle path. Further south of the lake, in the Mansonville sector, you’ll find a municipal beach at Vale Perkins, and close to the US border, in Ogden, the Parc Weir Memorial, a peaceful setting thanks to its remote location.
