By Carolyne Parent

It’s a worldwide fact, and Sherbrooke is no exception: A university town always brings about a dynamic living environment. As a result, the city teems with energy and innovative ideas, including its trompe-l’oeil mural tour, the first of its kind in Canada. Undoubtedly, the heart of our Townships will truly seduce you with its amazing cultural, gourmet and sports offer!

Rediscover Riopelle at the Museum

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is always presenting fascinating exhibitions. This season, to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the legendary Québec artist, Jean-Paul Riopelle, the museum proposes Taming the Beast, the latter being the art of printmaking, so difficult to master. Therefore, the artist’s lesser-known work is being showcased here, pieces created in collaboration with the renowned printmaker, Bonnie Baxter. Their association lasted for over a decade. Quite a promising event! (From February 2 until April 23, 2023)

Skate Across a Domain

An important asset for this destination is the presence of nature in the heart of the city’s downtown sector. A fine example of this is the vast Domaine-Howard, a park set in the historic Vieux-Nord district. Nestled inside a vast heritage estate, you can skate to the sound of music, day and night, all winter long on the large pond you’ll find here, and experience a truly charming moment.

Heading Out with Junior

Mont-Bellevue Park is another natural “lung” found in Sherbrooke. This winter, several trails have been added to its network for the great joy of hiking and outdoor enthusiasts as well as for future ones. In fact, the “Les Petites Pattes” trail, a 650 m loop, was specifically designed for youngsters to introduce them to this activity. Are you an experienced rambler? Challenge yourself by taking on the “Boucle du sommet”, a 2.5 km trail.

Soak in the Heat

A trip to the spa is a great complement to any city outing, and at Strøm Nordic Spa you’re truly well served! Firstly, the site is magnificent, with pools and fireplaces set along the banks of the Magog River. Secondly, you’ll enjoy numerous welcoming relaxation areas. Our favourite, located high up, offers a view overlooking the waves and has the feel of a stylish chalet! Finally, the restaurant Nord serves a boreal type cuisine celebrating our nordicity. The menu features local sea buckthorn berries, balsam fir jelly, pinewood nard and salmon, among other treats. You’re so relaxed that you don’t want to go home? Then head to the nearby Delta by Marriott Hotel for a good night’s sleep!

Enjoy a Pint…

Did you know that the first microbrewery in Québec was founded here in Sherbrooke? Since then, the enthusiasm for good craft brews hasn’t waned, quite to the contrary. When you’re in town, try La Sherbière, the city’s unofficial ambassador, and a lager concocted by Siboire. You’ll find plenty of places to raise a pint on King Street West, Depot Street and Galt Street West. Don’t miss out on the experience!
