Refreshing Bike Rides in Brome-Missisquoi

Published on Aug 8, 2022

A favourite destination for cyclists, and with its many waterways, shade-covered roads and creative producers (microbreweries, dairies, etc.), Bromont and the entire Brome-Missisquoi territory is also a favourite place to escape the summer heat.

Here are three refreshing bicycle getaways in Brome-Missisquoi.

Beautiful paved roads and hills for sports enthusiasts; A network of safe bicycle paths for families; Endless gravel roads for adventure seekers; Miles of mountain slope trails for nature lovers and thrill seekers! This corner of the Eastern Townships also has innovative infrastructures such as the Bromont National Cycling Centre (CNCB), with its pump track accessible to all levels and its future velodrome, which is scheduled to open this autumn.

A Family Moment on Mount Oak

Mountain biking
Level : Easy

When it’s too hot to move, there’s nothing like chilling out on a mountain bike trail, sheltered from the sun’s rays by the surrounding forest canopy. Ideal for beginners, for spending a fun day with the family, or for taking on a few technical challenges to improve your skills, Mount Oak is a true space to cool off in the heart of Brome-Missisquoi. Don’t forget to bring water, but there’s no need to prepare your lunch to enjoy a picnic in the middle of nature since the Canael bakery, just a few steps away, offers enough food for all cyclists needing a refreshing moment.

Furthermore, if you prefer to do a mountain bike loop, the C1 trail offers 15.1 km of refreshing glades, starting out by the beach of Lake Bromont.

The 100 à B7

Gravel Bike
Level: Experienced
64 km (of which 15 km paved)

Did you know that asphalt is one of the factors that contribute to creating heat islands? That’s why gravel routes feel so good and are much cooler. Here’s the Circuit 100 à B7, a route developed by cyclist Lyne Bessette.

Starting at the CNCB, head out along the farmlands and forests on Ch. Lobtinière and Ch. Allard. Ride across the town of Foster via Ch. Lakeside and Ch. Foster before continuing on a gravel route, the Ch. Mizener. Then, head south on Stuckely and Bailey roads. Take Ch. Spicer towards the charming village of Brome Lake, the lake itself and Douglass Beach.

Ride across the town, then continue on Ch. du Centre, then King and Sanborn until you reach Lake Bromont where a second beach welcomes you for a relaxing swim. It’s now finally time to head back via Chemin du lac Gale and Gaspé which will take you to the old downtown area of Bromont, its Musée du Chocolat for some ice cream, before returning to the CNCB.

A Perfect Way to End the Day

  • Chill a while on one of the terraces you’ll find in Bromont’s Vieux-Village.
  • Relax at Balnea spa after a challenging day.

The Traverse des Townships

Gravel Bike
Level: Intermediate
47 km (of which 14 km paved)

Starting out from the Sutton Tourist Office, the Traverse des Townships is a route set on gravel roads that links the beautiful towns of Sutton and Brome Lake. Leave Sutton by way of Ch. Élie to reach Brome Lake via Jackson, Stagecoach and Byers roads. Here again the gravel route alternates between wooded landscapes and farmlands. Brome Lake is about halfway, ideal for a swim, before heading back along the side roads.

Ride through the town of Brome Lake via Victoria until you reach Chemin du Centre, then return to Sutton by following Wells, Stagecoach, and Kuss which becomes Turner. With the mountains guiding you, take Ch. Mansville, turn right on Draper and finally Woodard.

A Perfect Way to End the Day

  • Downtown Sutton is your ideal destination to enjoy the end of the day in a “cool” setting on one of the town’s restaurant terraces, the cafés and local dairies.
  • Celebrate your après-vélo with a cold beer at the microbrewery À l'abordage.

Cooling Spaces for your Brome-Missisquoi Getaway

  • 2 lakes: Lake Brome and Lake Bromont
  • 2 beaches: The beach by Lake Bromont and Douglass Beach by Lake Brome
  • 1 river: The Yamaska
  • 1 destination with glade trails for cyclists: Mount Oak
