Updated on Jun 8, 2023

The arrival of summer is not only synonymous with vacations and freedom; for motorcycle enthusiasts it also means getting back out on the roads. In fact, many of them are heading out on our beautiful Townships roadways! Here are 5 outings suggested by Hélène Boyer, co-author of the Ulysse travel guidebook Le Québec à moto.

Along the Missisquoi River

When we ask Hélène Boyer where she prefers to ride in the Townships, right away, she begins to describe the Missisquoi Valley Road, between Abercorn and Mansonville. The views along the Missisquoi River and the fertile meadows are absolutely delightful. “You’ll also discover a surprising domain at the eastern end of the road by taking Route 243 for a few kilometres, then turn onto Chemin de l’Aéroport, and finally Chemin du Monastère. When you see the Holy Transfiguration Russian Orthodox Monastery, the chapel and the small cemetery (with its headstones carved in Cyrillic characters!), you’ll immediately be transported to the heart of rural Russia!” Psst! Visits are allowed, but it’s important to respect the quiet ambiance here!

Riding Around Lake Memphremagog

Another suggestion offered by the author of Québec à moto is to follow the beautiful, winding roads surrounding Lake Memphremagog! Starting out from Magog, bikers will head out on Route 247 South which presents some great views overlooking Lake Memphremagog, all the way to Beebe Plain. About halfway, she recommends we stop by the Georgeville dock to admire the splendid bay from this unique perspective! “With your passport in hand cross the border into the U. S. via Beebe Road. This becomes Route 5, then the 105 west, where farmlands, forestlands and views of the Northern Vermont mountain range await! When you reach Route 243, head north towards Vale Perkins Road, take Chemin du Lac and next George-R.-Jewett Road. Here you’ll discover the very pretty Vale Perkins dock and beach!” She reminds us to bring swimsuits!

Route 161 Alongside Lake Mégantic

Breathtaking landscapes overlooking majestic Lake Mégantic and the surrounding valleys, beautiful meandering roads and long straight stretches is what we can expect when we take Route 161 from the north end of Lake Mégantic and continue south to Woburn! On the way, she tells us not to forget stopping at the rest area near Boyle Road, where the view of the valley is spectacular. A visit to the lovely town of Lac-Mégantic is a must. Why not pause for a moment to walk along the Star Walker path, which circles the downtown sector and introduces us to the region’s rich heritage and cultural treasures?

The Route des vins de Brome-Missisquoi

The birthplace of Québec’s wine industry, the Brome-Missisquoi region is an unmissable destination to explore on a motorcycle as we discover the more than twenty vineyards established here. From Saint-Armand to Frelighsburg, by way of Dunham, Farnham, Cowansville, Sutton and Brome Valley, the hilly landscapes here are truly amazing! For circuit ideas, visit the Route des vins website.

The Covered Bridges Route

Her last, and certainly one of her favourite circuits, is the Covered Bridges Route, which she suggests taking at least once a year. “This itinerary will allow you to discover not only some gems of our cultural heritage, but also a breathtaking natural environment!”

We definitely recommend that you buy Le Québec à moto! You’ll discover highly detailed itineraries describing the most beautiful routes to truly enjoy your adventure on two wheels!
