Ayer's Cliff

The place name Ayer’s Cliff, adopted in 1904, reflects the site’s unique characteristic – the cliff towering over the southern shore of beautiful Lake Massawippi. It also commemorates Thomas Ayer, who introduced the railway in 1799. In the late 18th century, a small stagecoach inn welcomed travellers from the United States. Ayer's Cliff has kept its Anglo-Saxon allure with its heritage homes, and fairgrounds where a public market is held Saturdays throughout the summer. In summer 2020, the Stanstead County Agricultural Society will hold the 175th edition of its fair – one of the oldest in the province. The tourist offer also includes the Sentier Nature Tomifobia bike path along the river of the same name.
