Nelly, c’est le nouveau membre de la famille Diotte-Cloutier. Poilu et hyperactif, c’est un chien d’eau portugais qui déborde d’énergie. Nous avions tous très hâte, et le mot est faible, de partir en week-end avec notre tannante. Direction : Au Diable Vert à Sutton, une station de plein air où les chiens sont accueillis à bras ouverts.

Comment faire sortir des filles de 14 ans et 11 ans de la maison? Il existe une solution miracle: Nelly! Il suffit d’évoquer son nom pour que nos enfants émergent de leur état larvaire afin d’aller promener chien-chien!
Nelly est née le 24 juin, jour de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Elle est arrivée chez nous à la mi-août. Depuis ce temps, toute la famille rêve de partir en week-end avec elle. Qu’est-ce que notre chien d’eau portugais, une race réputée pour son inépuisable réserve d’énergie, aimerait faire? Sans aucun doute que la randonnée en montagne figure en tête de liste.
Nous sommes tombés sur la station de montagne Au Diable Vert. Blottie sur les flancs des monts Sutton, cette destination, offrant du camping et de l’hébergement insolite, fait de l’accueil des chiens son produit d’appel. Les pitous bien élevés peuvent même s’y balader sans laisse.
À la mi-novembre, nous avons loué un Pods, un petit refuge confortable en forme de « U » inversé, d’où Nelly profitait d’une vue incroyable sur les montagnes Vertes. Est-ce que notre chiot accepterait de dormir paisiblement dans ce lieu inconnu? Nous n’étions pas tellement inquiets, car la recette magique pour que Nelly fasse de beaux rêves, c’est de l’épuiser.
À l’accueil, la copropriétaire du Diable vert, Julie Zeitlinger, nous recommande fortement le Sentier du ciel, une portion des Sentiers de l’Estrie aux multiples points de vue. Ma femme est inquiète : le sentier s’annonce très pentu. Nelly sera-t-elle capable de maintenir le rythme? Pour ma part, je m’inquiète davantage de l’énergie de ma femme et de mes enfants que de Nelly… Je garde cette observation pour moi, mais j’avais tellement raison!
Dès que nous avons commencé la marche en forêt, Nelly est devenue folle de joie. Et quand nous avons osé la détacher, pour la première fois de sa courte vie en sentier, elle est devenue hystérique. Pendant les 3 h 30 de la randonnée (6,45 km aller-retour), où nous avons grimpé 500 m de dénivelé, Nelly a couru dans les tous les sens, parcourant au moins le double de notre distance. Jamais elle n’a affiché une baisse d’énergie, contrairement à ses maîtres!
Le lendemain, nous avons alors profité des sentiers qui se situent directement au domaine. Notre bête adorée affichait toujours le même niveau d’énergie et d’enthousiasme. Décidément, Au Diable Vert est une destination « top wouf! ».
Conclusion : notre chienne adore les défis. Il va falloir doubler, voire tripler le kilométrage de nos randos afin de répondre à ses attentes. De belles aventures pour les années à venir. N’est-ce pas Nelly!
Quand un tapis blanc recouvre le massif des monts Sutton, Au Diable vert n’hiberne pas. Les refuges, qui sont chauffés au poêle à bois, accueillent les urbains en quête d’un bain de nature. Dans les sentiers, on joue dans la neige en raquette ou en ski Hok, un ski de fond court et large. La station de montagne fait de la location d’équipement sur place.
