Stanstead Township (Georgeville - Fitch Bay)

Founded in 1855, this township is known for its two entities: Georgeville, on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, which celebrated its bicentennial in 1997, and Fitch Bay, hidden in the valley of Bunker Hills, near the bay of the same name and Chemin Narrows. Since a ferry service began operations in the late 18th century, the village of Georgeville has kept its olden-day appeal with its wharf, St. George's Anglican Church (1866), and Greek Revival-style white houses. The park (known as the "village green") forms the heart of the village, around which are the general store typical of the era, a café, a restaurant, artists' studios, the Jardin des Pionniers, and the Musée Copp’s Ferry. Bullock Cemetery, with its low, shale walls adds to the setting's charm. A scenic road leads to the small village of Fitch Bay, with the town hall in the former Advent Church (1866), the ancestral home featuring a witch weather vane, and the Narrows covered bridge (1880-1881). You'll find businesses to delight the most discerning palates that are worth the stop on your way to the Bleu Lavande lavender farm, a renowned agricultural tourism business. Take the Circuit Patrimonial heritage route to learn more.
